The crash occurred around 7 a.m. at the intersection of Oakland Avenue and Oakview Place, just south of Interstate 64.
Police say the woman suffered a medical emergency while behind the wheel, causing her vehicle to veer off the roadway and strike a tree. When officers arrived at the scene, they found her inside the vehicle in cardiac arrest.
Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
