A devastating tragedy unfolded in Lawrence County after heavy weekend rains caused dangerous flooding across rural roads. Authorities say Kasee Allman, 21, and Jesse Brock, 35, lost their lives when their truck became submerged in floodwaters near the East Fork of the White River. The pair had last been seen Saturday night in Paoli, and were believed to be driving toward Brock’s home when the tragedy occurred.
Concern grew when friends and family were unable to reach them the following day. Authorities began retracing their possible route using cellphone data, which led investigators to the area around Earl Road and Lawrenceport Road. Search teams from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, along with conservation officers and Indiana State Police, launched a difficult search operation using boats, drones, helicopters, and sonar equipment to scan the flooded roadway.
On Tuesday morning, conservation officers detected a large object underwater using sonar. Divers soon confirmed the discovery of a submerged truck sitting in about eight feet of water near the flooded road. Inside the vehicle were the bodies of Allman and Brock. Investigators believe the vehicle entered the flooded section of road and was quickly overcome by rising waters and strong currents, a danger that can sweep vehicles away even in shallow conditions.
The heartbreaking loss has left families and the local community grieving. Friends described Allman as energetic and kind, while Brock was remembered as someone deeply connected to his community. Authorities are now using the tragedy as a reminder to drivers everywhere: never attempt to drive through flooded roads. What may appear to be shallow water can hide powerful currents and washed-out pavement, turning a routine drive into a deadly situation.
