ne person has died following a plane crash early Tuesday morning at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield.
According to St. Louis County Police, emergency crews responded to the scene around 3:40 a.m. after reports of a crash. Authorities confirmed that the pilot—an adult man and the only person on board—was killed.
Police said the aircraft had departed from the airport overnight and was attempting to return when the crash occurred. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
When responders arrived, the plane was engulfed in flames on the east side of the airport. Officials have stated there is no indication that anyone else was on board.
The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what caused the crash.
